Metro Manila · Beach feeling at Megacitizens Stammtisch in June
'What do you miss in Manila?' Twelve people from six different countries gathered to discuss that and other questions during this month's Megacitizens Manila Stammtisch.
What the expats from France, Germany, Switzerland, the US and Denmark missed most was quite clear: specific kinds of food, be it unprocessed milk, affordable salami and French cheese, buns fresh from the oven, or extra-hot mustard. Fortunately, in some cases others could help and give tips, e.g. on where to find high-quality cold cuts. Apart from that, the things people miss here are very diverse, ranging from sport facilities and opportunities to ride a bike, to bars with a foosball table, the friends from home, and even 'common sense'.
The Manila Megacitizens had met at Isla, a beach-like bar at Chino Roces, Makati City. Similar to the first Stammtisch a month ago, the crowd was very mixed: people from their mid-twenties to mid-forties, working for chambers of commerce, NGOs, in the BPO industry, as translators, or in expat-related jobs. Therefore, the Stammtisch was a good chance for networking and talking about jobs and businesses in Metro Manila.
But it was not all about business, on the contrary. First of all the Stammtisch offers the opportunity to talk about everything under the sun with expats and Filipinos - be it tattoo stores, the perks of going on weekend-trips in your own car, or the question why Filipinos sometimes seem to put sugar in almost all their dishes.
The next Stammtisch for the month of July is already being planned and we are looking forward to see more new faces. Megacities will let you know about time and place. Like our facebook page to get regular updates!
