Metro Manila · Balloon Festival at Clark Airport (February 12-15)
The Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) at Clark Airfield is the annual show of everything that can fly and transport humans into the sky.
The fiesta's main attraction are, of course, the dozens of hot air balloons that will fill the sky over Clark in all shapes and colors. You can also buy a ride in one of the balloons (limited slots available, an early reservation is recommended). But apart from balloons, there is so much more: aerobatic exhibitions, paragliding, skydiving, kite flying, general aviation formation flying, the list goes on.
The 2015 Aviator of the Year Awards will award the Philippines' best pilots, air control, and other flying-related professions. And the most beautiful woman in the aviation industry will be crowned as Miss Aviation 2015.
There are several stalls where you can buy food and drinks which also offer limited seating. However, the area is just plains (airfield) without much electricity (some shops bring generators) and rather basic CR facilities. Bring a blanket and - as there is little to no shade - an umbrella or at least a big hat that will shield you from the sun.
Location & How To Get There
The best way of going to Clark is by hiring a private car or van. The driver will take you there and then wait for you until you decide to go home. While the event starts at 5:30 am every day, make sure to leave Metro Manila around 3:00 am in order to arrive there around 4:30 am – so you can buy tickets and get settled before the show starts. There were years when it was difficult to come by tickets. For public transport, click here or read our main article on Clark Airport.
