Located approximately 48 kilometers west of the Philippine capital Manila, the island fortress of Corregidor serves as reminder of the courage and valor of Filipino and American soldiers who bravely defended the country from invading Japanese forces during the Second World War.

The rocky island was a stronghold of American and Philippine forces. As Bataan fell on the 9th of April 1942, those in Corregidor fought hard and held out for some 27 days more. As rations depleted, the Allied Forces had no choice but to surrender the island to Lt. Gen. Homma Masaharu of the Japanese Imperial Army on May 6th of that year. Two years later, on a hot day in March, the allies recaptured Corregidor under the command of General Douglas MacArthur. This was the American general’s way of fulfilling his promise to return to the Philippines.
The guns used in the war now sitting in Corregidor’s ruins are silent witnesses of what happened in the island while the structures stand as a reminder to every Filipino of the lives claimed during this dark period of the country’s history.

Tours

When our team visited Corregidor, we secured a bargain deal to get to the island. But for regular tours, the suggested allowance is 5, 000 pesos for the tour, overnight stay, and food. This suggested allowance will be enough to get into all the important places in this beautiful island.

There is only one restaurant in Corregidor and the average cost per meal is 250 pesos. If you feel like bringing some food with you, that is possible too but one must remember that you’d be doing a lot of walking while on the island and that extra baggage might take its toll.
Check-in time and boarding time for Corregidor tours with Sun Cruises is 7 A.M. with the ETD at 8 A.M. ETA is 9:15 A.M. This is also the time that the guided tour starts. The tour package comes with a lunch buffet. ETD Corregidor is at 2:30 P.M. and the ETA at 3:45 P.M.

As mentioned above, you can already stay in Corregidor overnight with our suggested allowance and just get back to Manila the next day.
