While there are many museums that display old art work from Philippine masters, the Megacity also has a lot to offer when it comes to art galleries that showcase both old and contemporary art. Contemporary artists well-known in Manila’s art scene display their works in many of the metro’s popular art galleries. The three galleries mentioned in this article are highly recommended places that every art lover should visit.

Ateneo Art Gallery

Nestled in the Quezon City campus of Ateneo de Manila beside the bustling street called Katipunan is Ateneo’s gallery of modern art. The first of its kind in the Philippines, the art gallery showcases over 600 works of art that include prints, drawings, paintings, photographs, posters, and sculptures. Some of the works displayed in this art gallery include those of Roberto Rodriguez Chabet, Benedicto Cabrera, Fernando Zobel, Onib Olmedo, Arturo Luz, Romeo Tabuena, and Ang Kiukok.

Opening Hours:

The gallery is open M-F from 8am to 7.30pm. On Saturdays it is opens its doors to visitors from 8am and closes at 6pm. The Ateneo Art Gallery is closed on Sundays.

The Museum at De La Salle University

The university’s modern art collection includes works of Ang Kiukok, Botong Francisco, Jose Joya, Vicente Manansala, Bencab, Mauro Malang, and other artists.

Opening Hours:

The museum opens at 8am and closes at 6pm Mondays through Fridays.

Silverlens Gallery

Silverlens offers a wide-range of exhibits to its Manila audience. Ensuring that there is always a varied mix of artwork displayed, Silverlens often represents internationally-established artists and artists new in the art scene. While the original gallery only showed photography exhibits, SLAB/20Square showcases sculptures, installation art, paintings, and other visual art forms.
